Welcome to Gunman Airsoft News

Dear Arnies Airsoft news,

Hi all and welcome to May’s GUNMAN INNOVATIONS newsletter for East Anglia and Hampshire.

GI Airsoft is growing and we need new sites. Please keep your ears to the ground and get in touch if you find somewhere. There still is a £1000 reward if you find us a site that we take on.

Join the war guys

The New Loyalty System
The new loyalty system is working very well – don’t forget to ask for your voucher at each open weekend you attend.

How it works: When you attend an open day or weekend you will be issued with a voucher which is valid for three weeks.  If you present this voucher at another open day or weekend within three weeks, you will get £10 off your walk on fee, and you’ll get another voucher issued.

One day a month will cost you £25 walk on.  If you play two days you will only pay £30 for both – that’s basically your second game for only a fiver!!!  As long as you come at least twice a month you’ll keep saving money.

Vouchers are valid for three weeks from date of issue, and cannot be used with any other special offer or membership offers and are applied to the usual full price for the day or weekend walk on.

Milsim Rebranding
We’ve made the decision to drop the milsim label as it doesn’t really describe what we do properly and seems to be causing some confusion (and apprehension) to new players.  Outside of Gunman, most people’s perception of milsim is 36hr games, low cap mags, sleeping and eating in game, lots of sitting around waiting etc.  We still offer this kind of experience in some of our Filmsim special events as always if that’s what you want, however that’s not what our open weekends are about.

As we only run one weekend a month using skirmish rules, operation/mission based airsoft using limited ammo and medic rules is basically our standard open weekend offering.

For those of you who have yet to experience a non-skirmish open weekend, the big difference from skirmish is that there is an ongoing story behind the games, which spans across all of our sites, meaning each mission’s outcome affects not only the following day’s missions, but also the following week’s missions on the next site in the cycle.

Scenarios and objectives all have a purpose, so if the objectives are not met in the morning, the afternoon’s objectives may either change or be much harder to achieve.  It’s all about story and consequences.

You can attend either day on the weekend or both, it doesn’t matter, and each day is split into two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon with a break for lunch back at the safe zone.  This makes it easier for anyone to play and means you don’t have to lug all your kit around with you.

There are no restrictions on the type of guns or equipment you use, two-tone guns are welcome as are high caps – as long as you don’t carry more than the ammo limit you’re fine.

Team recognition is achieved by camouflage types, so desert/tan/multicam etc will be one team, greens/civvies/mixed on the other, therefore bringing both types of kit helps when balancing teams out, and prevents us having to use arm bands or tape (although we may have to sometimes if confusion arises).  You can even turn up with WWII/Vietnam/whatever loadouts, we’ll just stick you on the appropriate team.

If you get shot, one of your team mates can bandage you back up, if you’ve used both your bandages you can reinsert from an HQ or a mobile field pack, so you don’t have to wait around for ages to play again.

Come down and give it a try if you haven’t already.

Other
We are still getting people turn up just before briefing time!  We are going to have to get strict on this now as it’s holding up the game starts and eating into people’s playing time.

You need to be signed in, chrono’d and kitted up ready for an 0930 briefing so we can get started at 1000, rocking up at 0920 makes it really difficult for us to keep things running on time.  We recommend arriving between 0800 and 0830 to allow sufficient time to get booked in and ready as well as purchase any items you need from the shop.

If you miss part or all of the safety briefing, you will have to wait until we have finished getting the game started before we can repeat it for you, you may have heard it a thousand times before, but it is a requirement for our insurance and your safety that you listen to it every time.  If you make it in time for the safety briefing but are not ready for deployment immediately afterwards, you will also have to wait until the game is started so we can go through the game brief again with you and insert you into the game when you are ready.

This isn’t us being mean, rather, this is for everyone’s benefit – there is nothing worse than games starting late and people being inserted into a game without having a clue as to what the objectives or respawn conditions are – it ruins it for everyone else who has got there in plenty of time.

If you are attending a standard open day with medic rules, please try to bring two bandages with you – either proper dressings or strips of white cloth big enough to tie round your wrist.  We can supply bandages for you, please remember to return them at the end of the day though!

Big thanks again to our awesome marshal team – a player at a recent Stirling game overheard some players discussing site marshals and ours were mentioned as being excellent compared to other sites and fed it back to me – proud moment :)
Please remember that you are required to marshal at least one day a month at your local site, and may need to pink vest for part of the day.

Site News and Game Days

Tuddenham
We now have a stack of materials building up (thanks guys!) so a build day is imminent – keep your eyes on the forums and Facebook for more details – come and help us make improvements to your site, free tea and coffee and a bacon buttie provided.  :)

End of month skirmish is as popular as ever, with the mid-month standard games being well attended also.  Don’t forget that we have a night game at the mid-month in May on Saturday 9th in addition to our usual two days – the plan is to have some sneaky safe raiding going on!  Please ensure that you pre-book on our mid-month day games as we will need to limit numbers to 40 to ensure quality games.

Join us for a day or two at the one and only ‘Tuddenham Aerodrome’.  Camping is free and you can turn up Friday night if you want to make a weekend of it.

Norwich
Tree thinning work has started at the Stratton Strawless site, and could potentially cause problems over the next couple of months for us, so we will be suspending games there until after June.  With recent works on the A11, Tuddenham is only 40 minutes away, so why don’t you come and give our classic site a try if you haven’t already?

Eversley
There’s loads and loads of awesome stuff being built all the time with large numbers attending every month.  We’d like to ask that you make the effort to pre-book as we are looking to cap numbers at 50 per day to preserve the high quality of the games here.
