Jia Dyi have shared a short review of two grenade launchers:
Summer is coming! Temperature will be the friend for all gas-gunners. Two brands step in with different orientations. Let’s make a quick review from appearances and run a simple compatibility test.
HFC, one of the oldest M92 gas pistol manufacturers in Taiwan, had gained a respectable achievement in entry-level market for a long time. On the other hand, 6mm Pro-shop, with a sugar daddy behind, is a keen, new entrant in the field. Both BBs showers are welcomed by Airsoft stores because they consume lots of ammos in single shot.
First, the HG-138, although called the grenade launcher, is actually a BBs launcher itself that does not need shell. Experienced in gas-pistol, HFC claims the effective shooting range of HG-138 with only 4cm of barrel length amounts to 65ft.
With gas filling-nuzzle at the left side, the whole body is made up of one-piece aerospace grade aluminum by CNC cutting, thus it can assure no gas-leak. Act like grenade shell, HFC reduced the number of components and successfully enhance reliability. It is suggested to use 6mm BBs fast loader to fill 40 pellets into the barrels from the front muzzles, while the loader itself is absent from box.
The left-hand side photo shows HG-138 can be perfectly installed upon Picatinny rail system. Thanks to the mini size of HG-138, it won’t add much weight and space to the front section of rifle.
HG-138 can also be installed upon a pistol which is rail-system ready. Photo in the right-hand side indicates the compact joints with WE G17 gas-pistol. But there is the catch, since it must leave some space to pull out the trigger of HG-138, so we won’t recommend it to any compact pistol owners for practical reason.
Judging from the left side of WE-M9 mounted with HG-138, it must leave 0.5cm space for the trigger to be pulled out. In CQB, with the sound of blast, one shot of HG-138 can effectively “clear” all tangos in the room. So we believe HG-138 will be a hot-shot for its practical gaming purpose in spite of lacking any relation with real fire-arms.
6mm Pro-shop adopts a traditional but effectively a cost-down solution to access the market of BBs showers. Plastic construction attached with metal Picatinny rail, its satin black body almost looks like metal at the first glance. To open the hatch, the button is right above the trigger, and there also have safety control to avoid accidental hit. The metal shell in picture is for reference, not be included in the shipment, of course.
Though it looks like a signal gun in appearance, rifle owners still figure about the possibilities of mounting it with tactical rail of their rifles. The question becomes how to fix it with two rails that can fit with each other. If solved, I believe all air-soft rifle owners will all be glad to hear that. Please share with us your brilliant ideas and we shall offer a small gift for you once adopted.
In the end, we found there may still have issues about compatibility of shells with grenade launcher, for the inner diameter of cylinder is 40.6mm, and the diameter of edge to hold the shell by its bottom is 43.2mm. At least, for my Class Army gas shell with a little bigger in shell diameter (shown in the picture), they just simply don’t fit.
With innovative ideas of HFG and 6mm Pro-shop, the grenade launcher will no longer be a barrier for entry-level Air-soft amateurs. Whether it’s from functional (like HG-138) or decorative view (such as handgun style launcher), you can choose the right one to enhance the fire power in hot close battle.
