While, I finally got around to it, after server crashes and a particularly unpleasant bout of sickness and diarrhoea. You may (or probably won’t) recall that I contacted LCT Airsoft a while back to buy some of their advertised RPK components from them. Well, here they are, and here’s the reviews with some brief extracts:
The receiver is solid. VERY solid. It arrived cable-tied to a cardboard backing and wrapped in Taiwanese newspapers, and I have to say even this probably is not necessary for a receiver this resilient. Owners of Inokatsu steel receivers will not be disappointed; in terms of build quality this receiver seems identical in every way…
…What this exposes, however, is the fact that there’s a serious market gap for RPK sights. One manufacturer addressing this is LCT Airsoft. This is certainly very similar in appearance to a real steel RPK sight. Both windage and elevation work perfectly, with the windage dial accurately shifting the sight accordingly, and the elevation bar being a solid piece of metal designed to bite in place – unlike the Marui alternatives of old, which invariably slid up and down the sight before vanishing in the closest bush.
The AK / RPK Bolt review will follow as soon as I feel a bit more lucid, but for now that’s all from me!

Posts/tables: Right I’m in looking at the database myself. I’ve rebuilt the post and topic data for the forums and that has brought all that back online for everyone. I’ll monitor it to see if it’s a long term fix or not.
Login issues? I’m somewhat concerned to hear that some people are having problems logging in. If you have issues logging in please email me direct: arnie [at] arniesairsoft [dot] co [dot] uk give me your username and registered email address and I’ll look into it to get you back on.

Update 20:41: If you couldn’t login before I I’ve located the missing rows and merged them. Some 30 user accounts from the 40,000 odd went walkies but I’ve pulled them from the backups.
I’ve repaired and fixed all that I think needs doing myself. This should (fingers crossed) mean that everything is as stable as it was before all this mess started.

The technicians have worked on the databases all night and I’m told have made progress. Unfortunately as of around 0430 gmt an error has popped up. This has all been fed back and is being dealt with. Sorry I know this is frustrating folks, but at the moment this is dealt with by the datacenter techs, and is out of my hands.
Update 24/10/2008 19:12: This is not getting beyond a joke and I’m sure a lot of you share my thoughts on this so I won’t dwell there too long.
The situation at present is that the databases keep corrupting themselves after the restore. The problem is being looked into by technicians at the datacenter.
At present the forums tables need a complete rebuild in sql, this includes the huge posts table and the one containing member’s details. The result of these problems is that presently some people can’t login and the forums give errors on and off.
I’m not happy, you’re not happy and we’re waiting on technicians to fix something that should have been fixed a week ago.

I have to be brief as I’m mobile at the moment. There are still ongoing problems but they are being dealt with. It seems that the databases have been unstable since restore.
When there’s an issue you’ll get the dreaded IPB Error when trying to get into the forums. We are waiting on a resolution at this time.
2135 update: Technicians are working on the data that we use, this will result in periods of things going offline tonight (UK time). Hopefully by tomorrow AM all will be back to being error free and fast like it was last week before the failure.

Update 20:39 22/10/08 Okay we’re back and I’ve enabled the forums. I’ve double checked the databases and all seems in order. Email is back up and I’m reassured that all files are back where they should be. If there are issues, please let me know via email.
Apparently the technicians are “streamlining” the backup process for us. Right this second they’ve done a mysqldump so the forums will be slow while this happens.
Update 18:14 22/10/08 We’re some of the way there not all of the files have been restored and we’re waiting on news from the technicians moving the data over as to the current ETA and status. Sorry I can’t be more descriptive but at the moment this process is currently out of my hands. The data is safe it’s just taking time to move it all on to the new drive.
As things stand some of the databases and files have yet to be moved over. Good news is at least the site is back up. As soon as I have something to post I’ll add it here.
Email is presently down for the domain, forums remain locked, backup email address is arniesairsoft AT gmail DOT com but please don’t spam it.
If you want to contact site members at this time the IRC channel is on irc.quakenet.org in channel #arniesairsoft. If you don’t have a chat client visit this page and follow the instructions.

19/10/08 Sorry for the downtime folks, we’re having one of the hard drives looked at and then replaced on the server is it was producing errors.
This has resulted in downtime from 1700 yesterday through to this morning whilst the problems were fixed. I don’t know how far things have been fixed so far, so please do bear with things. Everything should be back to normal sometime today.
Please note: Forums are locked so that we can get the last daily backups restored.
We are waiting on a hard drive to be replaced which means copying all the data off as a redundancy measure then restoring from the previous daily backup. During this period the server may be unresponsive. Look on the bright side, it’s a weekend – go out and get some sun (if you’ve got any there). :D
This message should disappear once the server has been reinstalled and backups restored.
