RAP4 At Maritime Cyprus 2009 Conference Counter-Piracy Training And Defensive
High seas piracy is a mounting concern for shipping companies and their crews. RAP4 is proud to participate in effective counter-piracy training and defensive armament for personnel affected by this global threat.
Every two years the Greek Ministry of Communications and Works and its Department of Merchant Shipping, in cooperation with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, organize the Maritime Cyprus Conference to address pressing maritime shipping concerns. This summit is among the industry’s most significant conferences, and attracts owners, managers, and personnel from maritime businesses around the world.
The eleventh annual Maritime Cyprus Conference dealt this year with modern piracy and its threat to global shipping. The growing number of ships captured and crews held for ransom, of goods stolen and lives threatened, is cause for considerable alarm…and great precaution.
At this year’s conference, RAP4 partnered with NGK Shipping Ltd of Limassol to unveil RAP4’s latest products in the struggle against piracy. Attendees were impressed with RAP4’s latest development, the T68 SplitFire Less Lethal Launcher. An anti-personnel device safe for use amid all manner of cargo, the SplitFire propels special ammunition at 350 feet per second for use in self-defense. The compressed air powered launcher features a dual-source ammunition feeding system, capable of selecting between two different types of ammunition at the turn of a dial.
Projectiles include rubber balls that provide a strong kinetic deterrent to attack, marking balls for tactical training, and non-marking balls for training where no mess can be left behind. Specialized Less Lethal Capsaicin Projectiles unleash a cloud of capsaicin powder on impact that seriously irritates the suspect’s eyes, nose and throat. This product won the attention of the Law Enforcement Innovation Award this year.
The T68 SplitFire Less Lethal Launcher offers ship operators a new tool against pirate attack…with none of the issues surrounding firearms. RAP4, in partnership with NGK Shipping Ltd, provided conference participants with an open sea pirate attack simulation off the coast of Limassol. Participants learned pirate tactics and effective countermeasures, using T68 SplitFire Less Lethal Launchers.
The ex Special Forces personnel on staff with NGK Shipping Ltd offered the participants a first hand experience with hostile situations…and getting out of them safely.
The NGK Shipping Ltd staff is equipped with T68 Splitfire Less Lethal Launchers, and they offer a full line of security services at ports and borders. They also provide onboard security services to ship operators.
RAP4 is proud to be part of the solution for promoting maritime safety in pirated water. (RAP4)

Popular Airsoft have sent out some updates in relation to their upcoming events:
Last September 26, 2009, Typhoon Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) hit the Philippines, causing massive devastation, flooding and deaths. In a matter of hours, about a month’s worth of rain fell on Metro Manila, submerging 80 percent of the capital city under water. Barely a week after, Typhoon Pepeng (Parma) ravaged Northern Luzon, destroying thousands of square meters of farmlands. Reports of the number of displaced citizens range from 60,000 to 500,000, with at least 300 people killed. The local government and various private relief workers concede that they are overwhelmed by the scale of the destruction. Other parts of Southeast Asia were not spared, as the two typhoons continued its destructive paths toward Vietnam and Taiwan.
The airsoft community has not been spared, as a great majority of the airsoft population in the Philippines are from the Metro Manila and Luzon regions.
In light of these most recent calamities, and realizing the impending financial difficulties that Filipino and Southeast Asian Airsofters face in the coming months, we at Popular Airsoft Magazine postpone the staging of Rapier 01: The 1st World Airsoft Challenge and the Kami Wars tentaively set on the 10-13 of June 2010 (please stay tuned with this), and instead, bring you Ratratan 2009: SLOW BURN, a Fund-raising Fellowship Game that will benefit the victims of Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. This will also serve as a kick-off event for the new dates of the international events. This decision spurred from countless requests from our brothers-in-arms for assistance in whatever form. We at Popular Airsoft believe that it is never enough to remember the less fortunate in thoughts alone. Let us remember them by our deeds.
Ratratan 2009 will be held in lieu of Rapier 01 and Kami Wars on 28 or 29 November 2009 at the Nayong Pilipino in Pasay City, Metro Manila. Final date will be posted immediately.
We would like to request the International Airsoft Community to help out our fellow Filipino Airsofters by donating or contributing something to our Ratratan 2009 Charity Game. Please email us at info@popularairsoft.com to enquire about helping our brothers and sisters.
All players and sponsors who have made payments, please do contact us at events@popularairsoft.com to get your full refund.
In solidarity with our fellows in the Philippines. We remain.

There will be a big event at Elite Dorking at the end of November, here are the details (sent in by John at EAG):
“Tour of Duty”
November 21st – 22nd Elite Action Games Dorking
Strategic Overview
Tet 1968. As had become the norm in recent years, both the US / ARVN forces and the NVA/VC observed a truce during the New Year. ARVN forces were stood down and many personnel had returned to their family homes to celebrate. US forces were on a lesser state of alert. No-one in a position of authority expected anything other than Tet fireworks and hangovers.
The North Vietnamese had other plans. Having amassed considerable numbers of men and supplies in the south of the country under the noses of MACV, they were preparing to break the truce and to bring the war into the towns and cities of the South. No longer would the struggle be confined to the villages and paddy fields of Vietnam.
As the military machine in the South wound down to enjoy the New Year celebrations, the North was poised to attack…
Force disposition
The NVA/VC forces will be predominantly formed of infantry units, whose duty is to fight and to occupy and hold objectives. Limited use will be made of specialist teams – intelligence gathering, recon, sappers etc
US Forces will be more varied, comprising grunts, MACV-SOG, LURPS and Intel experts, skilled in the use of electronic intelligence devices.
Both forces will be given company commanders, additional command roles will be allocated to team leaders and a liaison officer (responsible for communicating with game officials) will be assigned.
Basic Objectives:
Having withdrawn from the forward Command Post, the US chain of command has decided that it now has strategic value and must be reoccupied. In addition to this the Australian outpost and nearby village are of key value.
The NVA/VC will attempt to seize, control and hold certain key objectives in and around Saigon and Cholon. These will include the Radio Station, the US Embassy, and certain designated targets such as the headquarters of the Saigon Police Force. Other objectives may be assigned as the battle progresses.
US forces will attempt to repel the attack by the NVA/VC. In addition to defending all key objectives, they must re-take any key locations that fall into NVA/VC hands. Allowing them to remain under the control of the enemy is simply not an option.
Both forces will be provided with a grid-map of the site. These maps will detail the location of all key, strategic objectives. The NVA/VC map will have all targets highlighted, along with the value of each target. They should ensure that these maps do not fall into the hands of US forces lest they be alerted to targets as yet untouched. (Elite Action Games)
