The AR57 and P90 are great choices if you want something that’s ‘not just another M4’ and want to be more unique on the airsoft battlefield. One of the challenges is the longer length of the magazine which is why the Condor MOLLE Modular Chest Rig was picked to easily allow 4 P90 magazines to fit side by side. Long range shots with an 11.4 ft lb Logun Solo air rifle. Myself and my friend Al took turns calling/spotting targets operating the camera and firing. The weapon is .22 calibre, I used Air Arms Diablo Field pellets. Ranges of targets filmed varies from 35 to 100 metres. The targets are day-glow orange and measure 3.5 inches across at the widest part, and are each 5 inches tall. Shots were taken from a rested position. My scope is a fixed zoom 4 X 40 PA wide angle with a duplex cross-hair.

I have made some more progress with the SJR L circuit. I have some more pot cores coming to test different sizes and materials. I think I need to go back and test using the copper foil within the coil instead of the air capacitor. Those of you who have followed this project will know what I am talking about.

I am sure that with the right combination of capacitors and resistors I will be able to achieve this performance without the ground contact. After that I will be updating the 3D printed Tesla Torch with these new improvements. By popular demand, a full upgrade to HD of my popular film, Operation Jawbreaker.

I have played many and been to many events where the organisers said they had reached the perfect balance point between real military exercises and a simple skirmish. I realise now that they either made the game too boring or little more than a skirmish with complex medic rules; milsim for the Xbox generation. In Operation Jawbreaker, Tier 1 also strived for that perfect balance themselves and in the most important respects I think that they came damn close to achieving it.

The basic idea for the scenario was that the villagers were unaligned to either the US side or the Taliban players (known as Blue and Red forces) and would decide on their allegiance based on the play of the teams over the event. Ed likes to design a very fluid series of set pieces that he always refers to as “organic”, in which the players have large amounts of autonomy to play however they will. I remember in the last event, Blackheart, the morning serial required that the US forces retreat across a field upon which the Reds had a skirmish line setup. That was scripted only in the sense that the Red commander knew they would be returning that way. Where he ambushed them was up to him to perform on the fly. Who won the conflict was up to the players themselves.

Red defeated the Blue on that occasion and then went on to invade their (now) lightly defended firebase. Again, this was an organically branching storyline that wasn’t in the written plans, but rather was the next natural step after defeating the Blue team in the field. Should the Blues have won, then it wouldn’t have happened.

Milsim is not an easy-sunday skirmish. Often things will not go your way as both the quality and quantity of opposing players will be high. Moreover, you may have to follow “unfair” orders such as being made to do guard duty rather than go out on a patrol. The game itself is long and tiredness creeps in as you struggle to keep up your spirits and your focus in the face of combat. This is all very humbling to the sorts of egos airsofter’s usually have. Contacts can last hours and dying and bleeding out causes you the long walk back to the FOB and a forced rest for 15 minutes. On top of all of this any cheating will get me on your case and bad play such as losing your temper or shouting “take your hits”, etc are all stamped upon.

For all that, this is the most realistic and involved airsoft imaginable for the price. Explosives of all types, mortars, grenades, IEDs, car bombs and suicide vests are all in play. Professionally trained personnel are on both sides, people used to the harsh realities of real combat, who make it all look easy. Myself I play airsoft of a weekend and then commute into London for a city job at a desk. My aching muscles a reminder that I spend my weekends doing something a little different, reminding me that I like to be challenged and tested in body and mind. It’s more than a little blat-around with the chums on a Sunday, this is an involved escalating conflict, expertly crafted and creatively planned. I know, because I spend some of my time putting it together as a part of the team. As a part of Tier 1.

FirstSpear is changing the game, again!

The VEP is a top opening, rolled closure & Tubes secured Assault Pack that can be mounted to FS Modular Plate Carrier’s and flipped over the head for quick access to contents inside or left hanging on the front when traveling seated for long periods of time.

Developed to “go forward from the Objective Rally Point (ORP)", the VEP provides the Assaulter with a unique capability that augments the full spectrum of modern combat operations. The VEP can be carried with its own shoulder straps (included) for conventional use without a plate carrier.

The size parameters of the first VEP make it an edge to edge fit on carriers cut for the Swimmer/Shooter M – XL, SPEAR/SAPI M to XL or the MBAV S/M, L/XL & XXL.

The VEP provides the Shooter with a clean unencumbered shoulder pocket when shoulder firing a weapon, minimizing under arm “clutter”. The Pack & Carrier can be removed and reassembled as one making quick work for casualty inspection and treatment. Front hanging feature provides additional safety and comfort during infiltration seated on armored vehicles and helicopters.

Easy individual access into the VEP for NVG’s, spare ammo etc. creates faster, smoother transition through operational continuum speeding up the overall readiness of the entire element. Rapid jettison of FS Plate Carriers does not change with or without the VEP on!

Some casual target practice. I’m using a Tokyo Marui Series 70 1911. It is entirely stock in this video except the grips, which are Carom wood grips (Rosewood with medal, chequered). I’m firing Blaster Devil .20g BBs, using Abbey Ultra gas. Overall I’m extremely happy with the TM Series 70 1911 MK IV. It’s capable of producing good groupings, more than good enough for CQB airsoft.

On Sunday, the United Federal States (UFS) made a major push up the road securing multiple check points and helping their team secure the objectives. In support, they used one of their gun trucks, to help keep fire on the houses so they could move up!

This tutorial shows how to mix and apply glow-in-the-dark powder and epoxy to modify a few EDC (everyday carry) items. Glow-in-the-dark powder can be found on ebay/amazon in various colors. I bought the Devcon 2 Ton epoxy (dries clear) at walmart, and it can be found online as well.

The 5 minute epoxy dries too fast for my liking, so I prefer the 30 minute version. I’ve found actual working time with the mix is usually around 15 minutes, so I do what I can within that time, but not go so fast that I get sloppy and make mistakes. If I get some of the mix outside of where I’m applying it, I clean it up with the edge/corner of a razor blade.

I first tried working with various glow-in-the-dark paints about a decade ago with skull beads for paracord lanyards, but they were mostly low quality paints or just didn’t work well, so I gave the epoxy/glow powder mix a try around 2007 with the powder shown used in the tutorial, that a friend had given me a year earlier.

During BB Wars Episode 1: A New Dawn on March 29th at D14 in Sanger, Texas, Bob’s Rebel forces recruited Blackout Militia and their VERY epic M.R.A.V. or Mobile Recon Assault Vehicle. The M.R.A.V. is a custom built airsoft tank that features multiple heavy machine gun positions, SIX rocket launchers pre-ranged for different engagement distances from 50ft to 250ft, multiple protected firing ports, functional sound system for motivational music (mandatory), and invulnerable main gunner position. Blackout Militia put in a lot of time and effort into the design and functionality of this mighty beast making it extremely effective on the airsoft battlefield. While very powerful, the M.R.A.V. can still be taken out by well coordinated rocket attacks from ground troops or other airsoft tanks with rocket capability, however, the M.R.A.V. is a serious force to be reckoned with!

"This film is a compilation of clips and unseen footage from the games I attended run by Tier 1 Military Simulation.

Before 2011 I had not played much milsim, now… well I recently laid in a puddle from 1am, freezing cold and surrounded by poisonous mushrooms, for 8 hours to spring an ambush!

I fell asleep and started snoring.

Moments later I was awoken by a wet weight crashing down on my back. Team commander Trip had thrown a log at me, missed, hit a tree and it had collapsed a rotten limb across my sprawled form. Had the opposition walked past at that particular moment then they would have heard the rest of the concealed team completely failing to stop laughing. At 6 am a stag deer came into the forest, only yards from me. It nibbled the leaves and then it sensed something was wrong. It couldn’t see us, but it could now smell us. Then someone moved and I saw its face as it realised that it was standing amongst 15 humans disguised as forest floor, buried under leaves and mud. With two hurried bounds it was gone.

Milsim is great fun, I recommend it. If you are worried if you can “hack” it, don’t be. You can, physically – it’s mentally you have to be ready for. After 24 hours in game (with 12 to go) you will be tired, frayed, frazzled and still in combat. And it will be raining. It’s at this point you will be ready to curse everyone around you. Your teammate with the better kit, your team leader sending YOU out on stag, the world for putting you in this place and especially the opposition who WILL attack you during the night… sometime during the night.

So, no sleeping without your eye protection on and a firearm to hand. Photo’s taken during milsim show tough men turning to jelly.

That is your challenge, can you stay mentally strong?
Enough to work as a team?
After all team play means sacrifice…

So, why do it?

Because, the harder the game and the more realistic the mission then all the more rewards are there to enjoy. Sure, the lows in milsim can be tough, but the highs… the highs are simply the best airsoft in the world. It was our side who attacked the enemy camp in the dark. Unleashing a battle of epic proportions as we had surprise but, like cornered rats, the enemy had nowhere to go and so turned and fought.

This was followed the next day with a counter ambush on our troops that led to a 2.5 hour long contact. 2.5 hours of unrelenting, balls-deep airsoft action. So much can be done with 2 hours, tactics… hell, strategy as the teams probe each other. flank, flank back, rush, fall back and lay up.

It’s incredible.

Players acting together as a team in ways never seen in airsoft, all commanded smoothly and everyone gets their oats. Eventually one side withdraws after running out of troops, this was my side and the opposition followed us only to walk straight into our IED’s laid behind us by our pyro expert (an army EOD). Milsim is worth the cold, the wet and the mentally brutal.

It’s one of the best ways to release stress and tension I know. It is also the best way to meet new and interesting people (and shoot them) that I can imagine.

You will look back at your weekend, you will see your moment of glory in a film and you will smile as you remember the feeling of achievement that only comes from playing at this level.

We call it Tier 1.

The ASG CZ Scorpion EVO 3A1 is an absolutely amazing gun both internally and externally. Airsoft GI’s Master Tech, Aaron, takes apart the EVO and gives his professional opinion on the gun.

The shape of the gearbox is unique and is extremely well built. It features a quick spring change feature so you can change the FPS within minutes and without the need of a technician. Due to the very well designed compression the gun has remarkable accuracy when considering the small compact size.

Also include is a mosfet that allows for empty magazine detection, 3-round burst, lipo battery protection, and maintain the overall health of the gun. It also replaces the need for a fuse saving space and preventing damage. The trigger utilizes a microswitch for ultra-fast trigger response and allows for those quick semi-auto double taps.

Many of the internal parts are also compatible with other Version 2 parts such as the gears or bearings/bushings. The short type high torque motor provides LOTS of power and a high rate of fire. Needless to say the EVO is creating new heights for AEG design and is a gun that will dominate on any airsoft battlefield.

Airsoft is a sports game which is played by people, young and old, around world.
The age anyone can play this game depends on the insurance cover that each site has. Most sites in the UK, USA etc accept players from age 14, though many will also accept players as young as 10. I would advise that before playing Airsoft at any site, you make sure it has insurance cover for all players. Always wear eye protection when playing Airsoft, even if you are just playing in your backyard. Airsoft is non-lethal, no-one has ever been injured using these. It is not possible to convert these items to use anything other than little plastic BBs. Above all, Always play safe.

Basic Exercise

Welcome back to the Auburn Medical Group program for fitness. Our first video introduced calorie counting using an app like My Fitness Pal. In this video we will discuss the basics of physical exercise.

I have to start with a disclaimer. Starting an exercise plan is harmless for most people, but if you have an injury, a pain, or a chronic illness you should consult your own physician before starting a new exercise routine.

The most important type of exercise is aerobic exercise. This is activity which raises your heart rate to be able to provide enough oxygen to your muscles to support their increased use of energy. There are many benefits to aerobic exercise besides just weight control.

Aerobic exercise also increases stamina and decreases fatigue, it strengthens immune function, and it decreases risk for several health problems, including but not limited to heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and some types of cancers.

Almost any form of exercise can be aerobic if it is done vigorously enough. The way we measure aerobics is by checking the heart rate or pulse. This can be done by checking your pulse at any of several easy to feel arteries including the carotid artery in the side of the neck and the radial artery near the thumb side of the wrist. The heart rate is measured in the number of beats per minute. The target heart rate achieved varies depending on your age. A general formula to determine your maximum heart rate is to subtract your age in years from 220. This number is close to the maximum rate your heart can beat, although it is a little under for most people. You want to get your heart rate somewhere in the range of 60 to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate during your most intense exercise. Some general maximum goals for different ages (are listed in this table) would be in the 160’s for teenagers, in the 150’s for people in their 20’s, around 155 for people in their 30’s, around 150 for people in their 40’s, 140 for people in their 50’s, the 130’s for people in their 60’s, and 130 for people in their 70’s.

Try to keep your heart rate within 20 beats per minute of these numbers without exceeding the recommended maximum. You can use the link in the description to use the calculator provided online by North Shore Medical Center in Massachusetts:

When just starting a new exercise routine I recommend not even trying to achieve a particular minimum heart rate. It is very easy to injure yourself when starting out. Never push past what feels comfortable when starting out. Then start with small goals, like just achieving your goal heart rate for a couple minutes at a time, and gradually increasing. Eventually you want to achieve 150 minutes per week of aerobic exercise.

There is an excellent free app I used when starting to run called “C25K” which provides directions to take you from not exercising at all to running 5 kilometers over a period of 9 weeks. I recommend it for people without certain disabilities who are in generally good health.

Physical fitness and weight management are among the most popular topics brought-up by patients. Patients tell us of programs they have started before asking us, their medical doctor, for advice. I am concerned by the trust patients often put in advice coming from television, the internet, or a friend-of-a-friend. They often do not check medical qualifications of the source of information nor check for unbiased evidence of a program’s effectiveness. Many situations are found to be a waste of money at best, or dangerous at worst.

The fact is that achieving physical fitness and controlling body weight is achieved through personal discipline in one’s diet and exercise routine. Most viewers will turn off this video on hearing diet and exercise because they would rather believe the lie that the work can be done for them with a pill or other simple solution. That is disappointing not because they stop watching my video, but because they perpetuate this myth instead of disciplining themselves.

I’ll address both diet and exercise. They both play a role in weight control and fitness, but the benefit of each is slightly different. Diet will play more of a role in losing weight. Exercise will play more of a role in achieving muscle tone and definition.

I do not like to make dietary recommendations complicated. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply limiting the total calorie intake is much more of a factor in controlling weight than subtle nuances of proper diet. In the end, it is simple addition which WILL result in weight loss. The discipline involves using the mathematical function of addition EVERY time you eat. I personally did this for nine months straight before reaching the point where I was able to stop. I’m talking about calorie counting. For now I don’t care where the calories are coming from. We can fine tune that as we go. First you just need to track total caloric intake without missing any item that you eat.

I used to hate counting calories. I remember doing an assignment in health class as a young student. I had to look up every food, and most prepared foods had unknown amounts of both known and unknown ingredients. I hated trying to track calories when I knew that my calorie values used for various foods were probably wrong.

Now there is a simplified way to count calories with much improved accuracy over the old days of looking up values of separate ingredients in a book. The age of smart phones and mobile data plans has brought us a great tool to help. Now we have free apps on the iPhone and Android like My Fitness Pal.

You can install apps like My Fitness Pal on your mobile device and get started using it in about a minute. Both individual ingredients or prepared foods can be found and added to your food diary with the tap or your finger. Many restaurant and brand-name food items can be selected to get exact calorie values. The total calories eaten increase as you go, with a display changing to indicate how many calories you are able to eat for the rest of the day. Your total daily allowance is based on your personal data entered when you first get the app. Your personal data includes your age, height, current weight, desired weight goal, and desired rate of weight loss.

Have fun using this app to help you limit total caloric intake. Be sure not to eat less than 1200 calories daily. Basic Nutrition

I like to keep nutritional principles as simple as I can. It can be very complex, but for most people just paying attention to a few simple basics will make the most impact. It is rare for a person in the developed world to have specific nutrient deficiencies requiring supplementation with the exception of Vitamin D in many elderly.

The most common nutritional problem in my patients is not a deficiency, but an excess of types of nutrition. The biggest problem, both in health impact and literally large size is simple carbohydrates. These are sugars. They are found in sweets and starches. This includes potatoes, rice, bread, pasta, crackers, and chips.

These foods stimulate the body to put food in storage instead of using it for building muscle or using it for energy. The result is that more food is converted to fat and put in storage in the body. These foods also stimulate appetite instead of satisfying hunger, so you eat more than when you eat other foods. These foods are surprisingly high in calories. See our Basic Fitness video for more information on calories.

You may have noticed that I have not pushed for a low-fat diet. Most people will achieve weight loss and lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels through decreasing total calorie intake without specifically trying to reduce fat intake.

Why Fitness

There are several reasons to maintain physical fitness. Being overweight puts you at a higher risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems, and certain cancers. Many patients also report having more energy and sleeping better when they are fit compared to when they are overweight. The NIH considers a BMI over 25 to be overweight. This is not a perfect definition, but it works for most people. Exceptions would include very muscular people. The NIH BMI calculator can be found with the link in the description of this program.
