Yawn.. it’s that early?

by Arnie

I thought I’d add some banter and chit chat to my blog. In all honesty I shouldn’t be adding this and instead getting some sleep, as I have to be awake and out the door in 3 hours, but I don’t feel much like sleeping after just driving across the country and back again. You get a fair amount of time to think to yourself when you drive the best part of 450miles on your own with nothing but a coffee and the radio to keep you company. Actually while I’m on the subject of that Radio2 came up with the truly irrelevant and obscure fact that rubber bands survice longer if you keep them in the fridge. Any closet stationery freaks out there now have a reason to keep more even obscure stuff in the fridge. wink

I’m sure there was something I was going to add (I thought of a thousand things to witter on about while I was driving but like the idiot I am I forgot to write them down and can’t remember now), oh yeah – Stefano over at Bioval emailed over some news about a bill that’s been proposed in Italy by their government to combat crime. It’s in distinct contrast to the UK powers that be, that’s for sure:

Hello All, I thought you would find it curious that Italy has also reacted to the increase in crime and terrorism by adopting a Firearms Bill that, if passed into law, will liberalise the detention and use of firearms by private citizens.

Because of increased street crime, house break-ins (with the occupants present) and terrorism the Italian Government has decided to liberalise the very restrictive Italian Gun Laws. Italians will be able to buy virtually any weapon (except full auto), in any quantity and detain any quantity of ammunition.

Also, the new law would allow people to use their firearms in self-defence without the provision of “proportion”; that the defensive response be in proportion the assailants weapons/deadly intentions. Simply stating, “Stop or I will shoot” will be enough!

By the way, the restrictive gun laws that this Bill intends to abrogate were introduced by Mussolini in 1921. The Fascists disarmed the population in order to increase their power; Hitler adopted a similar law.

Makes you wonder… Warm Regards, Stefano, (Bioval)

I was having a dig around on the net to see if I could pull up any resources about the proposed change that Stefano mentions, but they all pull up NRA related links that don’t exactly form the most unbiased media to mention. Anyway it’s about time I crashed here so that I can get to the airport early in the morning. If you’ve mailed me and your news isn’t up, please do be patient for a few hours to give me a chance to get out and back tomorrow and then read your mail and respond to it for you. If you’re looking for interesting links and more chatter about odd topics check out DomT’s weblog as it’s always good for some interesting titbits. I’d add more but the darkness is drawing me in, plus I really out to get some kip before the sun makes its groggy way up. G’night folks.
