  • Airsoft Gearbox Shell Modification
This mod is aimed towards the reinforced gearbox shell design and not the standard gearbox shell.

A problem that I have found with these reinforced gearbox designs is that if you switch gear sets sometimes the gears won’t fit. Lucky for me it was the spur gear that didn’t fit right. The top teeth of the spur gear was coming in contact with the shell itself so I had to grind down the shell to make it fit. As far as I know this does not affect the structural integrity or performance of the gearbox itself so relax. The gearbox shell fit together fine also and the spur gear is now able to spin freely.

This is a G&P gearbox shell with 8mm bearings. The gear set I’m installing is a Matrix 13:1 gear set. I used an angle grinder to get the job done as a dremel would take way too long. Hopefully this video will give you a solution to some problems that you might encounter when you install a new gear set.

Be careful with power tools and remember to wear a respirator, eye protection, and ear protection when doing this. Thanks for watching and if you liked the video please "like" the video. Thanks.

  • Leatherman Squirt PS4/ES4: "Thumb-sized Toolchest" by Nutnfancy
It was perfect in almost every way….except one. It didn’t have scissors. That was my criticism in my Jul 2008 review video of the otherwise awesome little Leatherman Squirt. It served me with distinction then and became a cherished wingman in my everyday life. Like they sometimes do (and I am glad for it), it has since been retired for the line by Leatherman. But fret not because these new Squirt PS4 and ES4 versions have a major improvement: scissors! They are tiny and precise, reminding me of the also-excellent Swiss Army Classic scissors. These little snips come in handy for a huge variety of everyday tasks; I’ve even used mine for first aid jobs where they snipped ripped skin away without causing pain. But with these scissors you will lose the impressive little awl (I also call it a punch) and the tiny screwdriver that rode in the previous Squirt. It’s a good tradeoff and as I discussed in my vid "Multi-tool Continuum" the designs always call for compromise. Other tools remain unchanged and they function well: file, 420HC flat ground knife blade (still hate the chisel grind they do), Phillips driver, and medium sized flat blade driver. The pliers of the PS4 are unchanged and that is good because for their size, they rock. The Squirts pliers are strong for their size and the jaws close with precision. The provide almost tweezer-like extraction and knot untying capabilities. The ES4 version has precise wire strippers that work and both version have light duty wire cutters that snip flex cuffs, zip ties, small nails, and wire. All tools are easily extracted from the exterior and won’t break your fingernails like some other LDMTs out there. Amazingly the build uses T6 Torx screws so this little MT has an open architecture and can be adjusted should the need arise. The weight remains unchanged as at miniscule 2.0 oz and the quality levels throughout remains impressive. Gone is the interesting tool choice of the retired E4 (tweezers, precise drivers, nail file) and the scissors only S4 Squirt version (look to the Leatherman Style for that in 2011). But they will not be missed. The Squirt colors have changed to matte anodizing including colors black, red, and blue with future special editions on the horizon. The contoured aluminum handles provide a good canvas for the vibrance of the new color choices. The Squirt again makes an ideal and thoughtful gift they will be cherished (until it is lost!). For light duty MTing, the Squirt is ready for the call of duty and unlike a lot of bigger MTs out there, you will probably have it on hand when you need it./////////////// Nutnfancy LIkability Scale: 10 out of 10
  • How to Tie a Mystic Zipper Sinnet by TIAT
A Mystic Zipper Sinnet is a sneaky way to incorporate a second color into an otherwise standard Zipper Sinnet. The end product typically confounds avid knot tyers creating the illusion that the second color appears from "nowhere". Having enjoyed years perplexing friends, I feel its finally time to show others how it’s done. Video production by JD of Tying It All Together.

  • Ontario SP50: "Hall of Fame Survivor" by Nutnfancy
The SP50 strikes a perfect balance in a large woods blade: it’s not too heavy but its 23 ounce weight provides excellent all around wilderness performance. The full flat ground quarter inch thick 5160 steel drop point blade brings tears of happiness to my eyes. It is distal tapered, has great sweep and belly, and a strong tip. It splits big ‘ole logs with force and has wedge-like authority in the wood. The SP50’s almost 9" blade de-limbs, hacks, and even digs (!) with competency. The back spine is sharp enough for fire steel use and can hammer some too. The SP50 was tested thoroughly in both temperate and artic conditions and performed without flaw. Bigger, heavier blades might do some tasks better but they are a bit harder to pack up to high elevations using "man portable" systems. You might thank Ontario Spec-Plus upgrader Dan Maragni for the upgrades in the line. Great care was used in the creation of the blades: water jet cut WCI-brand US-made 5160 steel, industrial hardening, specific grind geometries, vacuum stress relieving, and laser imprinting. It’s a lot of quality at this price point. It arrives sharp from the box too and held its edge impressively through testing. The Kraton handle absorbs shock, does not transmit cold, and is durable. It features a prominent guard on the bottom only; the lack of jimping and thumb ramp on this sized blade is a forgiveable miss. The MOLLE sheath is a big improvement over the Spec-Plus Gen 1 series and is lightweight and waterproof. It still has the loose-fitting thermoplastic liner that Ontario frequently provides (easily rectified as shown in the vid) and a well-made Kydex or themoplastic sheath would catapault the SP50 up to new levels of awesomeness. The SP50 could flex into the combat blade category where it could do de-limbing of a different sort…like the bowies of old (and new!), it remains a formidable weapon. But like others in the series, its real calling lies somewhere out in the wild when it helps you create fire and perhaps emergency shelter. Its value as of 2011 is outstanding: expect around a $75 price tag at the sources I recommend in the video. I suspect with this review the SP50 will deservedly become all time best seller for Ontario so orders yours when you see it. At that price you might even want two and you won’t even feel guilty for giving the SP50 the hard use it was designed for. This is one of the coolest large blades Ontario has ever produced. ///////////////////////////////////////// Nutnfancy LIkability Scale: 10 out of 10 (if with good Kydex or plastic MOLLE sheath, 11 out of 10 ;-)////////////////// Music licensed to TNP from

  • Volquartsen Trigger Installation, Ruger 22/45 by Nutnfancy
The stock triggers on the Ruger 22/45s are adequate and they can shoot accurately in their stock form. But this .22 pistol comes alive with a Volquartsen Mk II trigger kit and bushing. With this installed the gun shoots faster and more accurately. Here I install and narrate the Volquartsen trigger kit for a Mk III 22/45. Along the way I remove the detent from the bolt release (for quicker reloading) and drop in the Mk II bushing which eliminates the ridiculous magazine safety in the gun. With the magazine safety gone, field stripping is greatly simplified and the mags now drop free in reloads. Work is shown in detail and explained, including the positioning of pre and over travel trigger screws. The transformation to Mk II status and removal of the mag safety can be done separately without having to install a new trigger btw. With this video you should be able to effect the install yourself and enjoy a greatly enhanced and funner to shoot 22/45. //////////////////Mk II/III installs will be similar in concept.////////////////////////Music: Original TNP production

  • Chestnut Ridge Kydex: "Hello to Awesome Sheaths" by Nutnfancy
Many of our favorite fixed blade kinves have mediocre sheaths. Ontario large fixed blade knives for instance are great but lack a hard use, safer Kydex or plastic sheath. This may change in the future but until then a ready-made and quality option might be the Kydex sheaths from Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop. They feature perfect retention, clean lines following the exact contours of each knife, military colors, and a choice of belt attachment options. These sheaths are made for Ontario, Ranger, Bark River, and other brand knives. In this vid I concentrate on their awesome Kydex for the Ontario RAT-7 and RTAK II knives. The RTAK version even has their unique firesteel and striker riding in attachment (extra $ for this accessory). Of course these Kydex sheaths are not the only game in town and I will show more options in the future, perhaps even ones that cost less. But these Chestnut Ridge Kydex options show perfect quality, come ready made for your knives, and are lightweight and waterproof. ////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 8.5 out of 10 (10 if priced lower with same quality levels)//////////////// Sorry no discount here but I tried. Go to www.ridgeknifeshop.com to order these sheaths. Let them know Nutnfancy sent ya’!
