Like all things Bark River, these US produced knives exude quality. Three sizes were tested and reviewed in TNP: the STS-4, STS-5, and STS-8. The hard cored mountain testing was fielded by the largest, "Special Tactical Series" 8. The bigger STS knives feature thick 154CM steel blades, a rarity in a fixed blade knife. Woodscraft performance is shown and integrated into the POU discussion. The STS-8 acquitted itself as a stainless steel big woods blade on outings. Carbon steel knives will be tougher but they are high maintenance in wet environments and even with care they can rust. Bark River states the STS-5 was designed with input from military sources as a killing blade. It’s heavy but tough with excellent penetration capes. The STS-4 could be an excellent and tough EDC blade. All feature the convex ground, razor sharp Bark River edge. The 8 and 5 have an excellent Kydex sheath that is lighweight and simple (preferred). The STS-4 has a well made leather sheath. Ergos are shown and discussed; expected a handle sanding job on the micarta to get rid of sharp edges that are annoying. Value is moderate as each knife cost us in excess of $220. Attribute a lot of that cost to the expensive 154CM steel in this thickness. Despite some rock nicks in the 8, durability should be flawless and these knives possess that BR heirloom specialness. As a bonus I will show you how I integrated a Kydex Glock holster into the TacTec for secure but rapid pistol deployment and how a hard pistol plate can be carried as well. I was stoked to see these blades perform so well. Enter the Scrapyard Sykco 511, 711, and 911 blades into TNP Hall of Fame. Made of Busse’s SR-101 steel, they took a beating and showed no wear. Granted this is one data point but all indications point up. No chipping, bending and showing excellent edge retention after chopping and batoning in high alpine, snowy environments. Granted a properly heated treated 5160 or 1095 steel can also satisfy me and several TNP HOF blades feature those steels too. Reprofiling the little Sykco 511 yielded an amazingly sharp and durable 25º edge (shown). The large Sykco 911 was especially impressive with an authoritative swing, superb balance, and a comfortable shock absorbing Resiprene handle. It is a serious woods blade that will minimize TCE expenditures. Each size attacks a specific POU and you should find the one that best suits your system in these three knives. This is discussed with the specifics, lots of testing footage shown (with Allie!). Still-attractive competitive options shown. Value is good but not outstanding as no sheath is provided and shipping is expensive (plus you will have to wait). But this limited edition American produced woods blades by this Busse company will not disappoint you when you get them in hand. The SCAR MK16, which FN Herstal designed for the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM), is a modular assault rifle that Classic Army has adapted into a Sportline SCAR-L AEG. This airsoft gun is designed with CQB capabilities and comes equipped with a full metal Version 2 gearbox, allowing it to easily shoot between 370 and 380 feet per second (with 0.20g BBs) and making it an ideal AEG for outdoor fields. This SCAR-L is equipped with a precision inner barrel and full metal outer barrel that is covered by a one-piece polymer upper receiver. With the real steel SCAR-L having a polymer lower receiver and metal upper, Classic Army decided to equip this Sportline SCAR-L with a full polymer body to make it more lightweight and CQB friendly. The metal hop-up can easily be adjusted, ensuring that your rounds reach your targets. This AEG is wired to the rear and accepts mini type batteries in the stock.
