Since the load shifted to the new box mysql has not been stable. We’re getting “max connection” issues and in short the database service isn’t remaining stable and online. When it’s running it is blindingly fast, which is great, but for some reason it’s just not stable.
We don’t know what’s up with it exactly, however the issue has been flagged and is currently being checked by the hosting firm that runs the datacentre. I’m leaving the issue in their capable hands as they have vastly more experience than I do with mysql systems.
Apologies folks, but like I said before moves aren’t without teething issues and we are looking into it actively. We all want this service back being trouble free and efficient. ;)
Update: (240407/1827GMT) techs are still looking into things. In the meantime I’ve disabled the bar on some pages of the site that related stats for the forums, member login details etc. It might have been the cause.. I dunno at the moment but it was a random thought at the time.
A complete overhaul/upgrade of the forums has been ordered too. I’ll post more about that as and when I know about it (see here). We’ll lose the current look of the forums and a couple of tweaks/mods, but it needs an update anyway (the current design dates back to 2005 believe it or not).
